Audi sales dropped 35% in China in January, causing worldwide sales to drop 13.5%. The sales drop in China came as a result of a partnership with FAW so, said Audi in a statement, it was expected.
The drop is “temporary” and “extraordinary,” said the company in a statement. “We remain optimistic about our future business development in China,” said Diemtar Voggenreiter, pointing to the introductions of the Audi A5 Sportback and Q5.
Sales in Europe and America, meanwhile, rose in January 2017. Europe delivered 3% more Audis than in 2016, thanks in large part to Italy and Spain, where sales rose 17% and 15% respectively. Despite that, Germany still drove sales in the region, making up a little more than a third of total sales.
The US and Canada also had strong performances, with sales rising 11% and 28% respectively.
“In Europe and North America we reached more customers than ever before at the start of the year,” says Voggenreiter.
