startup real soon. The company plans to reveal its electric truck and SUV later this month at the
, but a teaser for the truck just dropped this morning. Jump to the 43-second mark if you actually want to see the truck.
Like many electric startups, the promises are huge right from the beginning. The Rivian truck, to be named R1T, is claimed to have a 0-60 mph time of around three seconds, over 400 miles of range and semi-autonomous technologies. This all comes thanks to the “skateboard” modular platform Rivian will be using for its vehicles. Exceptional performance off road is also expected, as Rivian calls its cars “electric adventure vehicles.”
In the teaser we’re allowed to see the front end of the pickup and its unique lighting fixtures. The vertical pill-shaped headlight units are crossed by a bar of light that extends all the way across the vehicle’s front end — a clear departure from traditional truck styling. If you pause the video at just the right spot, you’ll be able to see the rear tail light has a similar design with a bar of red light extending from side-to-side. It’s definitely shaping up to be a different style of truck, which is fine, because it is vastly different than any other because of its electric propulsion.
