Audi and Lamborghini got a lot of well earned praise for the mythical, magical, beautiful V10 that powers the R8 and the Huracan. And one of the 5.2-liter engine’s defining features, one of the things that makes it so special, is its lack of breathing aids. And that’s not set to change.

“No. There will be no V10 twin-turbo,” said Stehpan Winkelmann, head of Audi Sport, speaking to Australia’s Drive.

Winkelmann was more interested in a holistic approach to auto making.

“We don’t see the need to have excellence in just one thing,” he went on to say. “A balanced approach will always rule with cars like the R8 and Lamborghini.”

Drive reports that speed is not the only thing on Winkelmann’s list of priorities, so Audi Sport is in no hurry to turbocharge the V10.

Surprisingly, Winkelmann was also (albeit less) unsure about electric turbocharging, which is already used in the SQ7. That SUV, though, is powered by a diesel engine and Audi Sport’s boss suggested that the company was not particularly interested in applying the technology to gas-powered cars.

“Electric turbocharging would only happen if we need it. If our 0-100 time is missing something, we could think about it. But, in general, our cars today are good enough,” says Winkelmann. “All technology has to be (financially) feasible for a small manufacturer like Audi Sport.”
