“Who wants a stinking V6 when you can have a V8?” is probably what was said when Hennessey laid eyes upon the engine bay of the new
. Hence, the 2019 Hennessey VelociRaptor V8 was born.
Hennessey is known for its nutty creations (i.e. the soon-to-come 300-mph-plus
), and this is another wild product just like the ones before it. The performance engineering firm decided to swap the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 for a
5.0-liter V8 engine attached to a supercharger. We say attached to, because it’s a massive 2.9-liter supercharger system, producing seven psi of boost. It’s tuned to produce 758 horsepower, and rockets the truck to 60 mph in only 4.1 seconds. That’s right, your nearly 6,000-pound Raptor will run neck-and-neck with a
now. The Raptor wasn’t slow before, but this will certainly sate any of the traditionalists who thought the car needed a V8 from the beginning. Hennessey has even made a hotter
of the V6 truck, but in case that wasn’t enough for you, now there’s this. It still uses lots of Ford parts, too, including the 10-speed transmission, Ford wiring harness and
.
So if you buy this truck, you’re probably buying it for the V8 sound, but Hennessey does more to it than just engine modifications. The VelociRaptor V8 adds a six-inch(!) lift kit, 20-inch alloy wheels, 37-inch BF Goodrich KM03 off-road tires and the full VelociRaptor bodykit. There are V8 exterior badges and numbered plaques in the interior and the engine bay to designate it as a V8, too.
Here’s the part you don’t want to hear: the $147,950 price tag (includes the truck itself and the modifications). Only 100 of these V8 powered VelociRaptors will be built for the 2019 model year. They all come with a three-year, 36,000-mile
that covers everything. Check out the video below of Hennessey ripping burnouts with the guttural-sounding truck, then decide if the soundtrack is worth the wallet flush.
