Australia’s Bathurst race track is known for its long, intense races and this weekend’s 24 Hour GT3 Enduro Race was no exception. Although Audi’s hopes in the pro class were dashed early, Audi saw more success in the Pro Am class.
The German marque tied up two podium positions in the Pro Am class, with Daniel Gaunt/Matt Halliday/Ash Samadi finishing in second and Marc Cini/Dean Fiore/Lee Holdsworth finishing third.
“Sincere congratulations to our customers on their success in class and the distance covered,” said Chris Reinke, Head of Audi Sport customer racing. “Many major teams suffered severe setbacks today, but our privateer campaigners showed what they are capable of with the Audi R8 LMS.”
The cars in the Pro class, meanwhile faced trouble early and often. Clad in the Australian flag, the R8s of Team Jamec Pem Racing, either crashed out or were forced out of contention thanks to over eager rivals.
Eventually, the Ferrari 488 of Lowndes, Vilander, and Whincup won the race, a lap ahead of a Porsche and a Bentley.
