Audi Confirms RS5 Will Be Revealed on March 7

In a press release today discussing the Audi RS5 DTM tests in Portugal, Audi confirmed that the roadgoing 2018 RS 5 will be released at the Geneva Motor Show,  on March 7.

Although the RS5  was widely expected to make its public debut in Geneva, until now Audi had only confirmed the debut of its track-ready sister car, the RS5 DTM.

“It was the last test with an interim car before the world premiere of the new Audi RS 5 DTM that will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show on March 7,” writes Audi in its press release, “marking the first debut of the DTM car to take place at the same time as that of the new production model.”

The RS5, like the RS4 Avant, will be powered by the fruit Audi’s and Porsche’s combined labors, the new 2.9-liter twin turbocharged V6 engine. According to a leaked document, the new RS5 will produce 450 hp a healthy 446 lb-ft of torque, which is over 100 lb-ft more than the last RS5.

The DTM test, meanwhile, was held over three days at Portugal’s Portimao race track.

“The tests at Portimão have confirmed that we’re heading in the right direction,” says Dieter Gass, head  of Audi Motorsport. “The cars have a throatier sound and are faster. I feel that’s even visible on track.”
