The

Porsche 911 GT2 RS

has taken the

Nurburgring

lap record not

once

, but

twice

in the past two calendar years. It is an example of

Porsche’s

ultimate driving prowess, and it’s one of the finest track cars money could buy (note: it costs a

lot

of money). The GT2 RS is sold in markets across the globe, but there are slight differences, depending on where it’s configured. In Europe, the GT2 RS comes standard with a no-cost Club Sport Package that is not available in the U.S. market.

The Club Sport Package is essentially a safety group for those who truly will be using the car for what it’s intended. The track-oriented package for the track-oriented car includes a black high-strength steel roll cage that is bolted onto the bodywork behind the front seats. It also includes a lightweight handheld fire extinguisher and an aluminum bracket to hold it, as well as a six-point driver’s seat seatbelt. The final change is preparation for a battery disconnect switch.

As a standard package, customers who do not want the extra safety equipment can opt for a package delete, again at no cost.

The Club Sport package does not alter the powertrain or the suspension of the GT2 RS in any way. On the European model, it uses the rear-engined, rear-wheel-drive configuration with a six-cylinder engine and a seven-speed PDK transmission. Porsche claims it has a top speed of 211 mph and can sprint from zero to 62 in 2.8 seconds. In other words, the roll cage isn’t a bad idea.
