Recently,
revealed
a 2019 Camaro SS concept for the SEMA show
. The point of it was to show off a new paint color that would become available, but it also showed off a reworked front fascia. We hypothesized that the company was trying to get an idea of people would want a similar design used on
the already redesigned 2019 model
. Now
that the company is indeed hustling to implement the revised front end in hopes of boosting sales.
We reached out to
, and the company had no comment regarding an update. We think it’s very possible that the company is planning to do it, however. Part of the reason is how simple the change on the concept is. The bumper is exactly the same as the current model. The only changes are moving the badge into the upper grille, and then painting the center bar the same color as the rest of the body. Of course, even small changes aren’t completely trivial in mass production, but this change is a whole lot easier than creating a whole new bumper skin.
We certainly won’t complain if Chevy decides to use this new front fascia. We weren’t big fans of the mega-grille on the 2019
, which didn’t fit the shape of the mostly carryover car, and it didn’t share much of a connection with the rest of the
lineup. That being said, if Chevy makes the change, you might still want to snap up a current 2019 SS. Odds are, the production numbers will be quite small, meaning it will be rather rare and potentially collectible and valuable.
