While the new mid-engine 911 RSR won’t see its race debut until the green flag drops at Daytona, the 500 hp 911 GT3 R started its season, at the Dubai 24 Hours, with a double podium.
The Herberth Motorsport team clinched overall victory at the season opening race of the 2017 motorsport year at the Dubai Autodrome after taking the lead during the night with Porsche works driver Brendon Hartley, Robert Renauer, Ralf Bohn, Daniel Allemann and Alfred Renauer. Porsche’s Manthey-Racing beat Mercedes and Audi to secure second place with Porsche works driver Sven Müller, Porsche “Young Professional” Matteo Cairoli, Otto Klohs and Jochen Krumbach. In addtion to the the top two podium spots, Porsche’s success at the most important sports car race in the United Arab Emirates was crowned by the French team Imsa Performance, whose 911 GT3 R scored fifth with Porsche “Young Professional” Matthieu Jaminet. Out of the 92 vehicles that took place in the race Porsche held 3 of the top 5 positions.
Brendon Hartley (911 GT3 R #911): “That was a great team effort from Herberth Motorsport. I only met the squad for the first time on Wednesday and I immediately felt at home. My first outing in a GT-Porsche was a great experience and I hope that I’ll be back again next year. I love driving the 911 GT3 RS on the road and now I’ve also fallen in love with the racing version.”
