The Rogue Sport, sold as the Qashqai in other markets including
, is a slightly smaller and more affordable version of
best-selling
, and it carries on many of the latter’s design and utility features. The 2019 model features the same 2.0-liter inline-four engine that makes 141 horsepower and 147 pound-feet of torque as before.
It comes standard with the
mom-designed Rear Door Alert technology
, which activates the horn and other notifications when the system detects the rear door opened before the engine started but wasn’t re-opened after shutting down, meant to remind drivers not to leave small children or pets inside cars unattended. Also standard are a rearview monitor, a Bluetooth phone and infotainment system that features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, plus an available nine-speaker Bose audio system. And finally, there’s a new exterior color, Scarlet Ember Tintcoat, added to the list of choices.
For 2019, Nissan is making the
, which provides assistance with things like steering and acceleration and braking on highways, standard on the SL and optional on the SV. The Safety Shield 360 technology is standard on both the SV and SL grades and includes features like automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning and high-beam assist.
Nissan doesn’t break out sales for the Rogue Sport but instead lumps them together with the Rogue, the year-to-date sales of which through October were up 3.2 percent to 337,727.
