Audi to Offset G-tron C02 for 3 Years

Audi has revealed the newest addition to its g-tron range of natural-gas-powered vehicles, the A4 Avant g-tron. It joins the A3 Sportback g-tron and will be joined by the A5 Sportback g-tron. People who buy these cars by June 2018 can have their emissions offset by Audi for free, for three years.
The A4 Avant g-tron uses a modified 2.0-liter TFSI engine that runs on both regular gas and compressed natural gas. With its two gas tanks—one for either type of fuel—the A4 can go about 600 miles without filling up.
That’s thanks to a dynamic pressure control unit that measure out the fuel based on requested performance. Fuel going to the engine under hard acceleration can be forced through the lines at up to 10 bar (145 psi), while under a light load the fuel is only at 5 bar (72.5 psi) of pressure.
That means that the A4 Avant g-tron can get to 62 mph in 8.5 seconds (about half a second faster than a 2016 A4 Avant TDI) and on to a top speed of 138 mph while using only 100 g of C02 per km, about 19% less than the gas version.
Audi, though, is offering to offset g-tron C02 emission with its e-gas. With this deal the customer has nothing to do but use their g-tron as they normally would. Audi, monitored by TUV Sud, feeds its e-gas into the German gas grid, effectively cutting C02 emissions from g-trons by 80%, as compared to gas cars.
E-gas is Audi’s synthetic methane. It’s made using electrolyzers that break water down into its component parts. A methanation process then follows that binds the hydrogen to C02, which Audi then calls e-gas. Power for the entire process is generated from renewable sources.
“This offer is our next step in climate-neutral, long distance mobility,” says Dietmar Voggenreiter, head of sales. “Our promise to the customers is: no compromises. The g-tron models are sporty, sophisticated and progressive – like every Audi. And with Audi e-gas they are also very climate-friendly on the road.”
The offsetting plan is a standard feature on all A3 Sportback g-trons purchased between right now and May 31 2018 and lasts three years.
