Audi RS3 LMS Wins First Race on American Soil

The Audi RS3 LMS was driven in anger for the first time on an American track this weekend, and the results were predictable. After races on Saturday and Sunday at the VIRginia International Raceway for the Pirelli World Challenge, the little Audi had one first place finish and one second place finish.
The first win came during the Audi’s first ever race on Saturday, despite illness in the cockpit. C360R driver, Paul Holton, managed to hold onto RS3’s first win of the season, despite being transported to the track medical center for exhaustion-like symptoms after the race.
“That was one of the hardest races I’ve ever done,” said Holton after the Saturday race. “It’s hot and humid here today, and conditions in the car were really challenging. When the race was red-flagged, both the car and I got heat-soaked and I really had my work cut out for me on the restart.”
Despite winning the race, Holton did not set the fastest lap of the race. That honor was for Anthony Geraci, in S.A.C. Racing’s Audi RS3 LMS, who managed a lap time of 2:01.874. Despite his pace, though, he just missed out on the podium, finishing in fourth place on Saturday, while Jason Coupal’s BERG Racing RS3 finished in 8th.
Sunday meanwhile was a little bit less successful for the Audis, as Holton’s race one rival, Greg Liefooghe won the race in his BMW M235iR, leaving Holton on the second step of the podium.
Despite not winning on Sunday, Holton did set the fastest lap of the race with a 2:02.262. Geraci, meanwhile, finished in fourth again, and Coupal finished ninth, all in the TC class.
