Audi Sport’s boss, Stephan Winkelmann has revealed that Audi will premiere a new RS car at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
“Geneva is in front of us,” Winkelmann told Australia’s Motoring. “We’ll have a launch there which is going to be very important for us because it’ll set a new era of the B-segment of Audi Sport for us. You will see very shortly what is going to happen.”
The publication speculates that this may be the introduction of a new RS Q5, which is in the b-segment of SUVs. Historically, Audi Sport has stayed away from RS badged utility vehicles, but but with the recent introduction of the RS Q3, and an ever growing taste for SUVs, an RS Q5 seems an inevitability.
If the RS Q5 is, indeed, revealed in Geneva, it’s expected to come with 400 hp and a 0-60 time of 5.4 seconds, which would easily make it faster than the S Q5, which recently premiered in Detroit.
Whatever the case, the specter of performance SUVs is a certainty at Audi Sport.
“This is one of our tasks to have more and more Qs,” said Winkelmann. “Given the growth of the segment and also given the acceptance of sporty SUVs, this is one of our challenges for the future, yes.”
