Electrified

Ford Mustangs

are

on their way

, but now there’s a way to get an electric ‘Stang before

Ford

makes it. A British firm called Charge Automotive is planning on producing a run of 499 brand-new electric

Mustangs

using styling language from the

1960s

. Like any electric performance car, this one will be fast — 0-62 mph is achieved in 3.1 seconds using what we can guess (Charge doesn’t say) is at least two electric motors. Those motors produce 402 horsepower and 885 pound-feet of torque. That sounds pretty Mustang-like if you ask us.

Charge is using a 64 kWh battery pack, good for 124 miles of range. You won’t be going too far per charge, but you’ll be getting there in a hurry. Rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive modes are both available. From the video it looks like you can switch between the two drive modes via a massive touchscreen on the center stack. Other options are shown in the video, too, like a ride height selector, so it could have an air suspension. The powertrain itself comes from the

EV

technology supplier Arrival.

The Mustang shown by Charge is about as menacing-looking of an

electric vehicle

as we’ve ever seen. You’ll be able to have one in either fastback or convertible body styles. This company isn’t on its first rodeo either — Charge says it has contributed to projects for Williams F1,

McLaren

and Jaguar

Land Rover

.

Plenty of details aren’t being released at this date, but it’s impressive tech when looking at it from a spreadsheet perspective. Charge says they’ll be priced from $255,509 and ship to buyers in September next year. You’d better really love Mustangs and electric technology to plunk down a quarter-million dollars on this thing. Charge is collecting reservations now for $6,388 (converted from British pounds).
